WELCOME TO YEAR ONE

WELCOME TO YEAR ONE!
In Year One we strive to have fun and enjoy our learning.

We have a weekly Wonder Wall assembly where we come together, with Year 2, to celebrate our special achievements. The super work is displayed on our ‘wonder wall’ for all to see.
We have a special class bear who goes home each weekend with our Star of the week! He loves his sleepovers and has lots of exciting adventures. Come and have a look at his book, showing what he has been up to.
We also have a listening lion. He sits in the classroom watching us all week and then chooses the best listener. This lucky person gets to take Listening Lion home for a sleepover and Listening Lion loves to have adventures too. Come and have a look at his book, showing what he has been up to.

PE days are on a Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure that all PE kit is named!

Homework :
It is extremely important that children read every day at home. Books will be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Children should read their books at home more than once to increase fluency and ease of decoding, blending and reading new words. Reading diaries must be signed by a parent every time books are read at home.
After half term, children will start having weekly spellings. They will also have 1 piece of either maths or phonics homework each week. Homework will be given out on a Friday and will be collected in on the following Thursday. Thursday will also be our spelling test day.
The children will receive home learning tasks once every half term; these will be related to a topic/theme in class.

Please give any messages to the Teaching Assistant at the door in the mornings, or make a note in your child’s reading diary. Please say good bye to your child at the door. If you have any questions please pop in and ask any time.
Thank you,
The Year 1 team.
